Despite that most awkward public hug, Bush and McCain still detest each other. I doubt that Bush would do anything to help him, especially since McCain is essentially condemning Bush by doing everything he can to distance himself from the past eight years of Republican rule and somehow cast himself as an agent of change.

Every "Christian" radio shows I've heard have preach hate and/or demonized liberals/LGBT's or anyone else that does not agree with their twisted mindset/agenda.
I suppose since they are not calling for LGBT people to be put in camps, that makes them wimps.
Dena

a bit OT, but The No on 8 campaign needs something like this I think, I just thought of it so that is why I am posting it here.
Voice: Truth and Honesty are a big part of good Moral Values. (Show a cross and a bible fading into the background as these words Truth and Honesty are on the screen.
Then, Voice: How does Same-Sex harm Opposite-Sex Marriage? Has Same-Sex Marriage Hurt Your Marriage? At the same time showing a few happily married Same-Sex Couples,
Than, Voice, Truth is Same-Sex Marriage harms noone, Showing opposite and same sex couples together with families all getting along.
Just be Honest and Vote NO on amendment 8.

But the pump was already primed for that with the Religious Reich talk about how there will be riots in the streets.
And endless replays on Fox of only people of color doing the rioting--interspersed with footage of Reginald Denny being dragged out of his truck and beaten; Savage, Hannity, Limbaugh and their ilk talking about how "those people riot"(never mind why) and "hurt innocent people" just to scare the white folks. Then there will be white folks killing them some "Muslim sympathizers"...
So you see, those troops will be necessary. Or there might be "Helter Skelter" (you know one of them will use just that phrase to really scare the 60+ crowd).

Perhaps more than intended

But, well put. I agree that there should be rules and standards for political campaigns.
If we are going to amend the U.S. Constitution, this would be an issue that would make it worth the effort.
Those running for office should be held to a higher standard. If they lie to us, they should be charged with a crime similar to treason.
When Sarah Palin says something like:
"And he [Obama] said that our troops in Afghanistan are just quote, 'raiding villages and killing civilians.'"
She should be charged with a crime for misrepresenting the facts.
What Obama said was:
"We've got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we're not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous problems there."
The fact is our forces had killed 286 civilians at the time Obama spoke. Both Afghan president Hamid Karzai and President Bush expressed concern about the civilian killings at the time.
There's a big difference between what Palin said -- quoting Obama out of context -- and the facts of the matter. Obama never said that our troops were conducting "raids" on villages. He was talking specifically about air raids. Palin knows this.
This kind of deception should be criminal. It may seem like a clever play on words to drop the word "air" from "air raids" and misquote Obama. But, the omission of that one word misrepresents the facts entirely.
If a politician quotes an opponent, he or she should be required to quote exactly -- no paraphrasing, no omissions.
Also, it should be a crime for Palin to state that William Ayers is a friend of Obama. Unless Obama has made a statement to that effect, she should not be able to define whatever relationship they may have had.
Palin said:
"is someone who sees America it seems as being so imperfect, imperfect enough that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country."
The truth is that Obama has never "palled around" with Ayers. Obama and Ayers have a casual business relationship at best.
Palin should be required to support her statement with evidence. If she can't, she should be charged with the crime of deceptive campaigning. (Evidence would be witnesses who can swear the men socialized outside of their professional capacities.)

Watches are fashion to me - medium to low-end

2 Swiss Army watches, steel/steel band with white face, black/nylon band with brushed steel face (this latter I got for $30.00 as a closeout item). I love these - large numerals in sans-serif helvetica black, readable from arm's length.
1 movado-ish imitation, steel/mirror with mother of pearl face and tiny diamond dots 12, 3, 6, 9 - medium priced (80.00) Danish brand also obtained as a closeout item). Nice dress watch that goes with almost anything.
1 brushed steel watch from the Metropolitan Museum catalogue - face base has 6 colors in wedges, "second hand equivalent" is a transparent disc with the same colors and wedge design, so the face changes color constantly. The closest thing to a "pride" watch.
1 bright blue plastic band/yellow face dial Timex kid's watch - for washing the car, for sports, etc. This is the current iteration of my Swatch-style watch - I didn't like the later women's versions, too dam' fussy, not too readable, and the men's watches looked ridiculously large on me.
1 hand-me-down from my mom, I wore it a lot as a teenager. Simple steel self-winding Bulova , teeny-tiny dial face, white with steel hands and number dots. I loved that watch, but my aging eyes don't. Maybe that's why she gave it to me....she was entering the "maybe I need a bifocal" age when I was a teen.
